Once a year drivers from all over the world gather in China to drive the shit out of crappy cars. No rules. No limits. And sometimes no seatbelts.

Drifting is very new in the land of communism but every year American and Japanese drifters show the Chinese drifters how to do some REAL drifting. In 2008 and 2009 during the main event “WDS Hang Zhou” had a sellout crowd of 45,000 people. This year along with the American and Japanese drivers there were quite a few main land Chinese drivers as well as drivers from Hong kong. There was even a Russian drifter who came down for two events.

I had the privilege of traveling with the American team. I was given $1500 to purchase 4 shitty cameras and 3 shitty on car mounts (I don’t really shoot video). This short film is what I ended up with. I tried to concentrate more on the drivers since I had an opportunity to live and travel with them for 2 weeks. Every part showcases a different driver and their unique personalities. Enjoy!

The 149-year-old Mt. Washington Auto Road has seen the likes of horses and carriages, camels, people, bicycles and most famously, competition race cars. On September 8th, Traveling at an average speed of nearly 72mph in a Vermont SportsCar prepared, BFGoodrich Tires-shod 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car, four-time Rally America National Champion Travis Pastrana made sure the project name, Red Bull Speed Chasers, lived up to its name. He reached the summit faster than anyone else in history by clocking an officially timed run of 6 minutes 20.47 seconds, besting the previous record by more than twenty seconds.

Shot just south of Paris, France in Linas at l’Autodrome de Linas –Montlhéry, this 1.58 mile oval track, built in 1924, features banks as steep as 51 degrees, which is more than double the standard incline of most NASCAR ovals. Chosen by Ken for this specific reason, the ramp-like banking proved to be a unique and exciting challenge. The driving physics for the stunts performed were totally unknown until Ken attempted the maneuvers during filming.

Join us as we roll with professional drifter John Russakoff on his first outing at Ken Block’s Gymkhana Grid Test/Media event held on 08/07/10 at Hollywood Park Raceway. As a special invited driver John was able to drive the course and adapt to gymkhana driving fairly quickly in his rear wheel drive AE86 Corolla. John had a chance to test his grip/slip skills at this event and in doing so was one of the fastest/quickest cars of the day! Unlike drifting, his main priority at this event is to run the course as quickly as possible, using alot of grip and minor drifting.
